Coffee Roaster
Find the One You Need to Complete Your Coffee Experience

A coffee roaster is an essential part of every coffee lover’s home. If you take your coffee seriously, you definitely need to know what a roaster is all about.

Coffee roasting is practically an art; it allows coffee makers to not just enjoy the taste of good coffee but to fully experience the coffee with its aroma and flavor.

Types and Models of Roasters

There are many different types, ranging from models appropriate for home use and for commercial use. When it comes to home roasters, you have two main types to choose from.

First, you have the fluid bed roaster, and second, the drum roaster. The former is the more common type, working like hot-air popcorn poppers.

A fluid bed roaster consists of a glass roasting chamber through which you can observe the roasting process, so you can stop the roasting once it’s done.

The most popular fluid bed roasters include the FreshRoast Plus “8”, the Nesco Professional, and the Hearthware I-Roast 2.

These top three models are well-loved in the coffee roasting world because they roast fast, taking only around seven to a maximum of 20 minutes to roast coffee.

They are also very easy to maintain. Other brands and models to check out are Caffee Rosto, Swissmar Bravi, Gene Cafe, and Behmor. But these other models will not compare with the three earlier examples.

The Best Home Coffee Roasters

With a rating of 4.5 out of 5, the FreshRoast Plus 8 Home Roaster comes with 5 lbs. of Fair Trade certified green coffee. It is available at around $109.

This is a well-recommended roaster for coffee-loving households that have one of two avid coffee drinkers.

The price is quite affordable given its quality, and it is also easy to use that beginners in roasting will easily operate it. The machine, however, should be operated on a 110 voltage.

Other features include a mechanical timer, a chaff collector, and a very short roast cycle that satisfies a lot of home roasters.

The design is also very simple but functional. Nesco Professional, on the other hand, is the mind behind the smoke-free coffee roasting at home.

The brand is formerly known as Zach and Dani. The Nesco Professional Home Roaster is a gourmet roaster with a special patented catalytic converter smoke elimination system, a very unique feature.

It also comes with a glass chamber, a chaff collector, and a fast roast system. It can roast coffee in just 25 minutes already inclusive of a 5-minute cooling time.

A lot of coffee lovers like that the machine can make light roasts with even coloring and is able to retain the great aroma of the coffee.

Moving on, the Hearthware I-Roast 2, priced at $182, is a slightly more expensive appliance that works for any brewing system, such as espresso, drip coffee making, French press, and the likes.

It can roast up to 5 2/7 ounces of green coffee, which can already make up to 24 cups of coffee.

It also has a 4-minute cooling system, a 15-minute roasting system, automatic roasting profiles that can be programmed, and the time and temperature can also be adjusted.

It has an LCD display, a thermoflector technology, and a wind-tunnel. It is a considerable improvement from the I-Roast. Now, this is one of the most advanced home roasters around.

The Best Commercial Roaster to Meet Your Demands

As for commercial roasters, the industry is quite meticulous. It requires roasters equipped with advanced features such as the reflectometer, and sophisticated roasting systems.

Since commercial roasters roast for bigger and more major purposes, the roasting has to be of the best quality possible.

If you are looking for a commercial roaster, check out the Loring Smart Roast System, the Kestrel S35, and the highly popular TKM Astoria Roaster.

The Loring Smart Roast System is well-known for its very efficient recirculating process and an advanced roasting technology.

The Kestrel S35 is quite the famous product with its efficient roasting system and smoke elimination features.

But if you want a thermal transfer type roaster, you should go for the TKM Astoria Roaster.

The roaster can roast coffee beans in just 15 minutes and can make up to 130 lbs. of coffee beans in an hour. This is, however, a bit expensive.

If you are looking for an affordable option, the Rosto Pro 1500 can do the work for you. It costs around $7,000 but already comes with smoke-free roasting, light toasting, and a digital navigation.

There are still many other brands and models out there, but these are definitely the ones you should keep an eye out for.
