Coffee Maker Recalls
Meeting Varying Coffee Tastes All At Once

Coffee maker recalls can be a big hassle. Unfortunately, it cannot be avoided at times. Even the top coffee maker brands such as Bunn and Black and Decker can be vulnerable to recalls.

These coffee makers are, after all, only machines. Recalls are companies’ way of recognizing the defects of their coffee makers also as a way of taking care of their customers.

Recalls: how to deal with them

When you hear about a recall for your specific brand of coffee maker, get all possible news and information about it. Find out which coffee maker models are involved. If your specific coffee maker model is involved, stop using it right away even if you have not experienced problems with it. Then gather all the information you can get about the coffee maker recall and follow provided instructions on how to submit your unit for the recall.

Recalls on Bunn coffee makers

Some years back, even top coffee maker brand Bunn implemented a recall of some of their coffee makers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with Bunn itself, called for the voluntary recall of Bunn home coffeemakers due to several complaints from consumers. In one case, the Bunn coffee maker recall involved about 1.75 million units expected to be recalled.

Some of the hazards reported that led to the Bunn coffee maker recall was that the plastic pour-in bowl and lid can melt or, in some cases, ignite. This can be triggered by a simple electrical failure. However, the effect is that it can cause burns or fire hazards for users. Although no injuries were reported, the case occurred in 17 reported cases, which eventually led to the coffee maker recalls.

The involved products included Bunn’s home coffeemakers with model numbers of GR-10W. GR-10B, B-10B, BT-10B, and B-10W. The model numbers can be found on the white or silver sticker under the coffee maker’s base. Consumers using the involved models should immediately unplug the coffee maker and give it time to cool down, which can take up to around 3 hours. Do not check the machine first within the 3-hour allowance. After that, you can check whether your unit is included in the recall. If so, contact Bunn for details on how to get a repair or a new unit.

Recalls on Black and Decker coffee makers

Aside from Bunn, another coffee maker expert and trusted household appliance brand, Black and Decker, also became the victim of coffee maker recalls. Black and Decker voluntarily recalled their Spacemaker coffeemakers. The Black and Decker coffee maker recalls were executed on about 584,000 units of the coffee maker.

The recall was called after some cases were reported of the coffee maker’s brew basket shifting out of alignment, which led to the hot water overflowing and posing scalding and burning threats to consumers. This happened in more than 200 cases, with some injuries reported. The injuries included around 10 second-degree burns.

The Black and Decker coffee maker recalls involved Black and Decker Spacemaker coffeemakers with model numbers ODC440, ODC440B, ODC450, as well as ODC460. Consumers faced with the recalled product should immediately stop using it and contact the distributor for a replacement for the brew basket.

Recalls on Mr. Coffee coffee makers

Some coffee maker recalls were also reported for Mr. Coffee coffee makers. Mr. Coffee is another very popular brand of coffee makers. However, Mr. Coffee recalls some of its coffeemaker products after several complaints from consumers were received. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and the North American Systems, Inc., the company that manufactures Mr. Coffee coffee makers, announced the recall of up to 3 million of Mr. Coffee coffee machines. This is one of the biggest coffee maker recalls that occurred in the coffee industry.

The recall was implemented due to complaints about fire hazards and the possibility of causing shock. Although only a small number of the machines experienced the problems, all units were recalled for safety. All Mr. Coffee coffee makers with the letters G, H, I, J, K, and L, and those with the number 75 are included in the Mr. Coffee recalls.

If your coffee maker recall comes with these markings, unplug the machine and stop using it immediately after you hear of the recall. Do not tamper with it or modify it in any way. Instead, follow all instructions provided by Mr. Coffee. In the past recalls, the consumers are asked to write to the manufacturers address so they can be contacted for further details.
